Judea Pearl

Judea Pearl is a renowned computer scientist and philosopher, known for his work in artificial intelligence and causal reasoning. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1936, Pearl earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and went on to complete his master’s degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Rutgers University.

Pearl’s research has focused on developing algorithms and methodologies for reasoning about causality, which has had a significant impact on fields such as artificial intelligence, statistics, and philosophy. He is best known for his development of Bayesian networks and the probabilistic reasoning framework, which have revolutionized the way we understand and model causal relationships.
